Generally we have been posting about LCD high definition televisions, but now Cheap TVs turns its attention to LG’s 37-inch 1080p LED television. If you are newly researching televisions or unaware of the difference between the different types, check out our home page. We offer a quick breakdown of the different things to look for in a television. In a nutshell, LEDs use less power than LCDs, have good viewing angles and do not suffer from the burn-in effect like plasmas are known for.

LG’s LED television is a slim television with full 1080p high definition picture. The televisions boasts a delivery of amazing brightness, clarity and color detail, all while being more energy efficient than LCDs. The built-in Intelligent Sensor optimizes the picture and color based on the lighting conditions in the room. A great feature that further saves energy, but we recommend you try it out and see if the adjustments enhance your viewing pleasure. LG offers on-screen reference points for easy self calibration of the television. Looking at the back of the unit, the television is equipped with three HDMI inputs, great for connecting your cable/satellite receiver, Blu-ray, video games or media streaming device. Two A/V inputs and one component video in. You will also find a USB 2.0 port and digital audio out for connecting your external sound system.

The reviews on Amazon are overwhelmingly positive. As of this writing, there were a total of 98 reviews and 72 of them were five stars. Reviewers praised the slim and sleek appearance of the television and its great picture quality. Being at 60Hz, the motion blur was not noticeable, leaving some reviewers to discuss how they favor the 60Hz compared to 120 Hz models. You may have to spend a few minutes tweaking the picture settings but it doesn’t appear to be a big deal. Also, as we have stated earlier, you may want to turn off the Intelligent Sensor if it overcompensates for the lighting of the room. With the televisions in this price range, we tend to report about the quality of sound. This review got mixed reviews, some praising it and others wanting more. The reviews on sound don’t appear to be as unfavorably as other units we’ve posted.

Overall this television appears to deliver a great picture, energy efficiency and an overall quality viewing experience. If you want to connect to the internet, you will need to do it through a third-party device. With so many choices out there today, the lack of wi-fi or ethernet connection shouldn’t be stopping you from purchasing this television.

Toshiba’s 40-inch 1080p LCD television positions itself as a valued-packed television that can be placed in any room. With a presentation in high definition 1080p and multimedia connections, the Toshiba unit provides the basic central home entertainment system. Supported by the DynaLight feature, the Toshiba 40E210 adds intensity to black color and selectively reducing the intensity of highlight areas. This is done to give the television a more true-to-life appearance, based on using advanced histogram technology that monitors the brightness of each video frame. Having deeper blacks can lead to a more detailed picture with increased depth.

The Toshiba television has a refresh rate of 60Hz. Many prefer their television set to be at least 120Hz but you may not really notice the difference. Toshiba’s gaming mode reduces game controller delay for quick action on the screen. The CineSpeed LCD panel delivers high-speed video. On the back and side f the unit are two HDMI ports. With people owning multiple video game systems as well as a blu-ray player and media streaming devices, we would like to see one additional HDMI input. Other connections include one component and one composite A/V input. We would like to see an additional component input as well. There is also a USB input, great for viewing pictures and listening to music on the big screen.

On Amazon, this television gets mostly positive reviews with the majority being four and five star reviews. Reviewers praised the picture quality and its matte, reflection free finish. What really captured reviewer’s attentions is the picture quality for blu-ray playback. The Toshiba 40E210 shined here. What Amazon reviewers disliked most was the sound quality. Low, tinny, lacking bass and of poor quality, the sound left much to be desired. Also lacking is an analog audio output, so you will need a digital to analog converter if you have a stereo system. Over on Newegg.com, the reviews were along the same lines. Sound quality was criticized, but the picture was praised. One reviewer noted that blur was non-existent during a football game (owning to why we think you won’t notice the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz) with great color. Continuing with the picture, reviewers noted that the colors are vivid with deep black levels.

We’ve reviewed enough televisions in this price range to see a trending pattern. Many reviewers will write that the picture quality is superb but the sound is lacking. Consider purchasing a soundbar to improve audio quality. If you decide to purchase this television, you will be adding a solid basic high definition television to your home entertainment set. It won’t have internet connectivity like pricier units, but media streaming devices such as Roku or Apple TV will enhance your viewing experience.

The Philips 40-inch 1080p LCD high definition television offers many features associated with higher-priced televisions at a cheap TV rate. Featuring wireless internet connectivity and access to third-party content, this television has access to popular services such as Pandora and Netflix. The refresh rate is 120 Hz, which Philips boasts will help sharpen on-screen movement and create amore fluid and realistic picture. Many televisions we review at this price level are 60 Hz. The television utilizes Pixel Precise HD technology to process each incoming pixel before it is displayed on screen, which may even improve the quality of standard definition television. The television is equipped with SRS TruSurround HD and comes with a Dolby Digital output, for connecting your own home theater sound system.

The television is equipped with four HDMI inputs. Usually we review televisions with two and wish it had three. This Philips television allows for multiple devices to connect with ease, so before you know it, you will have your cable/satellite receiver, Blu-Ray player and video game console connected with one input left to spare. You can also turn your television into an extension of your computer with a PC-in RGB connection and USB port. You can connect the television to your computer wirelessly.

The television has a limited number of reviews on Amazon, but most are generally favorable. The most helpful review focused on the ease of the setup, the access to Pandora, Netflix, Facebook and the decent sound quality. Others did praise the picture quality. The most helpful review on the critical side praised the refresh rate and Net TV app but felt the limited picture options, blurry picture when connected to the PC over HDMI and terrible color reproduction were enough to warrant it a two-star rating. One reviewer warned that there isn’t a game mode, so the picture may lag when playing a video game. However, we should note that another reviewer logged no complaint when playing a PS3 game.

For it’s price, it offers many features other televisions in the class do not. You may want to weigh the pros and cons carefully. If this is a second set in your household, you may find yourself getting great value for your dollar.
